Race: Northwest Youth Championships 2026
Event: Womens U17 4+ Finals
Result: 4th place (Nationals qualifying)
Notes
I was proud that our boat executed a strong race and qualified for Nationals! Especially so as this was the first time our boat was racing together due to canceled events.
The lack of practice showed in a weak start where we struggled with timing. Being behind right away threw the boat off but I helped the team regain composure and maintain strength through the rest of the race.
My tone shifts were effective and I successfully called more moves on the fly to adjust the race plan in real-time.
Heading into Nationals, I'm working on focusing our boat on an internal tech goal when next to another crew and improving my steering to better handle cross-winds and minimize course corrections.
Race: Northwest Youth Championships 2026
Event: Womens U17 4+ Time Trials
Result: 2nd place (A Finals qualifying)
Notes
This was our first 2K as a boat due to prior event cancellations. Leading up, we were struggling to row together and find balance in the limited practic time. Under those circumstances, I was happy with a strong race and qualifying for the A final!
Without other boats to push off in a time trial, I focused on internal motivation with tech goals. The strong head-wind affected our splits but I was especially happy with our sprint and dropping splits.
There was some confusion in the middle of the race as my boat wasn't on the same page on how meters worked for the time trial (1900m vs 2k). I will be working on building more trust and carry the momentum into our finals.
Race: Head of the Lake, Nov 2025
Event: Girls U17 8+
Result: 4th place
Notes
7:00 - 10:00: We gained a lot of energy going through the Montlake Cut, as external motivation really helped our crew get fired up.
11:00 - 12:00: Our middle move was particularly effective -- we used a power 10 for quick + sharp catches to recommit and hit the halfway mark hard, and then a focus 10 for posture around the catch to recenter + stay focused. This helped our boat pick up more speed and keep the press up for the next half of the race.
Description: 5x5', piece #5, Jan 30 2026
Boat: U17 4+
Notes:
During this practice, our boat was able to improve on our rhythm and power every piece, with the work we did culminating in our last one, which felt the strongest and most clean.
I was proud of how I used my tone and name calls to motivate my rowers, and I felt like I was able to effectively call a build in press in the last minute without spiking the rate.
Description: 3x1500m, piece #2, Jan 23 2026
Boat: U17 4+
Notes:
This was a lineup we had not practiced before, so we got off to a rocky start during the first piece. However, we practiced quarter and half slide rowing to clean up our catch timing and it helped us a lot.
During this piece, we were a lot more consistent and rowed better together, and we carried the speed we gained into the last piece. I was proud of how I was able to motivate my rowers to walk on the u19 boat next to us despite starting down on them.
